Why Choose Marauder?
From novice to Olympian - for those who dare to dream, a place where those dreams can be

realized by training with Marauder Aquatic Club’s professional staff!

The Marauder Advantage:

  • Progressive stroke technique training – clear, concise explanation of the latest in stroke skills combined with the very best drills to reinforce those skills. Under Coach Kyle Almoney and his assistant coaches’ watchful eyes, we “do technique” every day, every set, every swim!

  • Underwater filming – we film and analyze our swimmers with our underwater Power Cam and Power Sketch video our techniques give us a clear view of what our swimmers are doing, allowing for the best analysis and correction.

  • Dryland training - our comprehensive dryland program allows our swimmers to become better overall athletes.

  • Education - Our coaches will educate the swimmers why and how successful training will incorporate in to successful racing by looking at videos from some of the top coaches and athletes in our sport and taking their “secrets” and putting them to work in practice.
  • Dedicated, knowledgeable coaches - Our coaching staff is dedicated to helping swimmers achieve their best. They keep up to date on the latest stroke and racing techniques. Our small team size allows coaches to get to know swimmers personally. In addition, no matter how many swimmers are attending a meet, even if it's just one, we will always have a coach present.

  • Relationship development – with coaches, team mates, officials and parents, relationships make our team work. Learning to develop these relationships is a life skill all of our swimmers benefit from for a lifetime.

  • A range of competitive offerings – we offer our swimmers every opportunity to reach their goals, from mini-meets, to local league dual meets, to USA Swimming meets. We give our swimmers the opportunity to swim not only locally but also nationally.  From seasonal swimming to year round swimming we offer it all!

  • Two Training sites – we use both Pucillo pool and Brooks Hall pool as our training sites through out the year both located on the Millersville University campus.

  • Low Swimmer to Coach ratio – We keep our numbers limited to allow for our swimmers to get the most attention from our coaching staff and the most out of each practice. We believe in quality, not quantity.

  • Individualized Goal Setting – Our coaches work one on one with each of our swimmers to help them plan out their goals, both short term and long term.

  • Flexibility with Fundraising and Volunteering- We do need parent volunteers to help run meets and functions as with any team and conduct fundraisers when needed, but we do not have "points" and the like as many clubs do. We appreciate the help we get from a great parent group. Our fundraising goes toward equipment and other items for our team.
Please contact Head Coach Kyle at 717-872-3872 or at KAlmoney@millersville.edu for more information on registration for the 2011-2012 season.

6 month and 3 month payment plans available!

We believe that everyone, regardless of economic situation, should be given the opportunity to swim.
Therefore, we are willing to work with families on making payments as easy as possible. Please contact Coach Kyle if you require further assistance with payment beyond our standard payment plans.

Facilities

We are fortunate to be able to use both pools at Millersville University, which allows for flexibility because the University swim team, Campus Rec, and other groups use the pools also. Both are great "teaching" pools.

Pucillo Natatorium (left) is where our home meets are held and is considered a "fast" pool due to its gutter system and depth. It is 25 yards long with 6 wide lanes. There is ample bleacher space for teams and spectators to sit. It is a deep pool, with the maximum depth of about 12 feet. It was renovated in the summer of 2010, which included a new "open" ceiling, new lighting, thoroughly cleaned pool, new doors, and walls and bleachers painted.

Brooks Pool (right) is the original pool at Millersville University and a great teaching pool. It is 25 yards with 4 lanes and has a maximum depth of 8 feet. Because it isn't as big or deep, it is less intimidating for young swimmers, and we hold practices for the younger groups there most of the time. It also has ample, wide bleacher space for spectators, as well as team stretching. It was renovated in 2009.

For directions the facilities we use, please see "Pool Directions."
Practice Groups
Please see Practice Schedule for specific times.

Beginner: For swimmers that are first year swimmers or are just learning competitive swimming, we offer our beginner program that will ease swimmers into competitive swimming. The focus in the group is strictly technique with dual meet and "mini meet" participation highly encouraged. This group is for swimmers 8 and younger only and will only meet 3 times per week. Swimmers should attend at least 2 practices per week.

Novice:
For swimmers who are 10 years or younger with some experience in competitive swimming. Time spent in this level is primarily given to educating and teaching proper stroke technique that will build the foundation for correct strokes. The more advanced swimmers in this group will also learn beginning racing techniques that will help them as they progress. Swimmers at this level will participate in dual meets, league invitational meets and select USA invitational meets.  Swimmers in this group should try to make a minimum of 3 practices each week.

Black: For ages 9 to 12, the Black group builds upon the foundation of proper stroke technique with proper racing habits and practice habits that will help them advance in swimming and reach their personal best. We also begin to instill goal-setting and to work toward accomplishing these goals both in and out of the pool. Age-appropriate dryland utilizing bodyweight is incorporated into practices. Swimmers at this level participate in dual meets, local and regional invitational meets, as well as USA invitational meets. Swimmers must make a minimum of 4 practices per week (Highly Recommended)

Gold:
For 6th to 8th Graders (ages 11 to 14), we offer our Gold program.  We build upon our stroke foundations and habits with advanced racing and practice techniques aimed at helping each swimmer reach their personal goals. We will also work to develop leadership roles at this level to allow swimmers to become leaders in and out of the pool.  Swimmers at this level compete in dual meets, local and regional invitational meets, as well as Junior Olympics and USA select meets.  The top level of this group will have opportunities for major USA swimming meets and select events. Swimmers in this group practice must be able to practice a minimum of 5 times per week (Highly Recommended).

High School Clinic: Open to all high school students who want to enhance their training before and/or throughout the season. This is the same program we have had, just a slight name change. Participants will learn valuable technique drills and feedback, while at the same time getting in shape for the upcoming swim season. Participants will also be able to participate in CPAL Dual meets and USA invitational meets as well. *Swimmers in this group may train until HS season starts as in the past, OR continue through March for a nominal fee. We highly recommend swimmers take advantage of the best deal in Lancaster County swimming.

Suit/Equipment FAQs
Must we buy the team suit?
We would like our swimmers to wear the team suit to promote team unity, so we prefer that they wear our team suit. If this is not possible, they need a suit in one or both of our colors of black/gold.

What suits are ok for competition?
See the information below regarding banned and approved suits. In general, swimmers should wear one piece "racing" type suits that fit properly, aren't baggy or worn out, and boys should wear jammers or briefs (not swim trunks). Many good brands exist, including our team brand TYR, as well as Speedo, Dolfin, Nike, and more.

What equipment does my child need for practice?
This varies by group level. Caps and goggles are universally needed and as veteran swimmers know, it doesn't hurt to stock up because caps and goggles can and will break. We can provide some kick boards, but purchase of these is encouraged and many swimmers like to have their own. We are able to provide some fins and pull buoys at practice at Pucillo, but there is no guarantee on your child's fin size being there. All groups should have fins, including Beginner. Rubber, regular length fins are preferred. Black, Gold, and HS should have pull buoys and paddles as well.

Will there be orders for team apparel and equipment?
Yes, we offer many different items for purchase. Look for an order form in your mailbox at the beginning of the season. You can also purchase items as you need them at local stores like T&T Swimming and Schuylkill Valley Sports, and at online stores like swimoutlet.com

Can team suits be worn to practice?
Yes, but keep in mind that suits wear out and fade over time. It's good to stock up on practice suits instead. There are many affordable places to get them, including physical stores and online outlets. Swimoutlet.com is a good place to get suits and equipment.

Information Regarding Banned Suits

USA Swimming has banned tech suits beginning Oct. 1, 2009. Details include:

1. Swimsuits for men may not extend above the navel or below the knee and for women may not cover
the neck or extend past the shoulders or below the knee;
2. Material used for swimsuits can be only textile fabric which is defined as materials consisting of
natural and/or synthetic, individual and non-consolidated yarns used to constitute a fabric by weaving,
knitting, and/or braiding; and
3. No zippers or other fastening devices are allowed except for a waist tie on a brief or jammer.

Tech suits are now banned from high school competition, effective immediately.
